Secrets & Scandals of The Archives Season 2, Episode 1: The Mysterious Maurice de Bosdari

From the department of "You can't make it up...." This talk reveals the European antics of swindlers and convicted felons who masqueraded as art connoisseurs and dealers in order to permeate the highest social circles at the end of the nineteenth century.

It was most likely during the Exposition of 1900 that Bardini met Maurice de Bosdari (1857-after 1935), an Italian from Ancona who moved to London c.1895 following the crash of his banking venture in Constantinople. Material from the state archive of Bardini reveals Bosdari’s machinations to buy objects from Bardini with the intent to sell them to J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913). He was successful, but he was also shady. Bosdari retained a check from Morgan from which he counterfeited Morgan’s signature on more checks. When found out, Bosdari went on the lam—but only sort of—he actually stayed local in London under the assumed name of Bremont. If Bosdari was sly, Bardini was more so, and he succeeded in secretly garnering Morgan as a client via two of his own “agents,” both with strong network ties to New York. Drawing upon archival material, this talk examines the intricacies of the various agents and double-agents involved in the market competition for Morgan’s business and for the promise of providing the decoration for the soon to be built Morgan Library.

Exploring the Enneagram - An Ancient and Modern Tool for Self Understanding

The ancient symbol of the Enneagram has become one of todays most popular systems for self-understanding, based on nine distinct personality types.

The Enneagram helps you to see what your basic patterns of behavior are – but most importantly it shows you what the motivations for the patterns are.
Without knowing the motivations it is nearly impossible to jump out of a repetitive behaviour and transform. This system helps to develop presence and awareness,
so that you can can overcome your inner barriers, realize your unique gifts and discover your deepest direction in life.

Join us in this introductory workshop as Karen Joyce shares her knowlege and journey with this sacred tool of personal growth and transformation.

Private Tour with Advancing Women Artists Director, Dr. Linda Falcone "Women Artists Florence 1900-50"

A new exhibition featuring art by women from storage to spotlight. ‘Women Artists. Florence 1900-50’, showcases two artists Leonetta Cecchi Pieraccini and Fillide Levasti Giorgi.

Best known for her portraiture of the well-known literati who frequented her salon, Cecchi was praised during her time for ‘painting with the vigor of a man’ whilst Levasti’s whimsical domestic scenes are valued today for being slice-of-life paintings that zero in on the female perspective during the interwar period. Trained by Giovanni Fattori, both women carved out a ‘space of their own’ in a Europe torn by war, where attitudes toward professional women were undergoing huge transformation. Exhibition goers will catch a glimpse of Morisa Mori’s Futurism and Evelyn Scarampi’s essential figurative sculpture or Flavia Arlotta’s jewel-like still life canvases.

In addition to this private tour, participants will have the opportunity to have lunch together with the Director of AWA, Dr. Linda Falcone at Relais Santa Croce.

More about Susi Bellamy

 www.susi-bellamy.com

Susi Bellamy creates vibrant, colourful interiors based on original and unique artwork painted in the studio, and hand marbled paper designs created using a traditional technique. Her artwork is inspired by her great love of colour, her background as a fashion editor and her time working and living in Florence.

The designs feature rich, exuberant colours and recall the layering and marbling of paint. This brings to mind the rough texture of ancient Palazzo wall surfaces with spaces that seem to contain their own layers of distance and perspective, encrusted with strata of both landscape and surface decoration. The rich texture and subtle mark making created in Susi's paintings and papers are digitally transferred to both luxurious velvet and mica wallpaper. This high quality printing process harnesses the rich texture of the artwork onto the surface and emphasises the dynamism and depth of her designs.

Susi Bellamy’s collection is made in England from start to finish using the highest quality materials. Each design punctuates any interior with flashes of visual impact in a range of colour combinations. The designs work in conjunction with each other to create a maximalist explosion of colour, or individually as a statement piece to add a striking colour accent to any room. Their combination of uniqueness, colour and vibrancy will impact any interior in the same way as a piece of artwork. Susi will be showcasing her original art and homewares alongside smaller giftable items such as washbags and luxurious silk scarves.

Rassegna Jazz

Improvisation in the performing arts, mastered since the beginning of the 20th century, is at the base of a style, or rather, of a way of thinking, which has asserted itself throughout the world and even today offers suggestions on how to listen, share, build and dialogue.

This events are dedicated to one of the most intimate ensembles in jazz: the Duo. Some of the most important recordings in the history of this genre were conceived by the understanding of two musicians who, even at the height of their artistic maturity, did not pretend to excel on each other, thus trying to put together their thoughts in order to build something unique, sincere and unrepeatable.

Red Passion Party by Progetto Itaca Firenze

Progetto Itaca Firenze is a Volunteer Association,  founded in 2011 who operates in mental health care. We are part of the WORLD MOVEMENT that brings a new positive vision for all people suffering from psychiatric disorders. Our message of hope is based on the concept that even the person with a serious psychiatric illness has resources that can be exploited to find a more regular and independent life. Mental illness has a biological nature and can now be cured and we try to educate the public and the media to help end the stigma surrounding mental illness and promote awareness.

To raise funds for  the activities we offer, our young volunteers organize events like the one of the 13st of july in Forte dei Marmi.

Did you know mental illness is more prevalent than cancer, diabetes or heart disease?

By 2020, behavioral health disorders will be the #1 cause of disability worldwide, surpassing all other illnesses.

We offer free rehabilitation services for young people suffering from mental disorders and family support initiatives, as well as information and prevention projects. Our major project is the Clubhouse. Club Itaca is first and foremost a community of young people with major psychic illness who enter the Center as Members. Much more than simply a program, or a social service, a clubhouse is most importantly a community of people who are working together toward a common goal. Through participation in  Club Itaca people are given the opportunities to rejoin the worlds of friendships, family, important work, employment, education, and to access the services and supports they may individually need. Club Itaca is a restorative environment for people who have had their lives drastically disrupted, and need the support of others who believe that recovery from mental illness is possible for all. When "I" is replaced with "We", mental illness becomes wellness. Clubhouses are a powerful demonstration of the fact that people with mental illness can and do lead normal, productive lives.
